Follow Friday (17)

Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee & Alison.

What is one book that you would be nervous to see a movie adaption
of because you think the movie could never live up to the book?

I mean to be honest, what movie ever lives up to the book? While I enjoy all the Harry Potter films, my favorites fell short in the films (i.e. 3 & 6) so that is an example. OMG, so is My Sister's Keeper. But thinking in the future, so to speak, I would have to say that while I would extremely love to watch Meghan Chase and Ash on the big screen, I don't think actual cinematography could capture the real aspect of the world of the Iron Fey. Sure they could capture the wonderful fantasy of the Seelie/Unseelie Courts, but to really grasp my visualization of the Iron Kingdom and The Iron King and Glitch, etc. I like the idea of what is inside my brain much better. Go Julie Kagawa!

Thanks for stopping by! What is your anti-adaptation?

While you're here!

What is the longest book you’ve read?
What are your favorite 600+ page reads?

Combing through my reading career I would safely assume that the longest book I have ever read would be a Harry Potter book. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix tipping the page length scales at 859 pages.

As for 600+ page reads, I find that I don't actually read that many. My average page length is somewhere between 350-400 if I had to guess. Without a doubt I would strongly recommend the reading of the Harry Potter series if you have not done so. I might also be inclined to suggest that you read Breaking Dawn/The Twilight Saga with Breaking Dawn being over 700 pages.

With that said, I will also share the books that I want to read that serve as paperweights. The first one being A Game of Thrones and its following books. This is followed closely by the mildly intimidating Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss and The Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind.

I think that about sums it up! I hope that you have a great weekend, I have been out of commission this weekend creating enough product to sale at my town's first annual comic convention. I can't wait to turn the pages and blog the words when I am done staying up until 3am crafting!

What book would you love to see made into a movie or television show and do you have actors/actresses in mind to play the main characters?

What a tough question. I think about some of the books that I have read and a lot of them exist in movies *coughHarryPottercough* or even some that I know would be great are television series like Game of Thrones or The Sword of Truth. I definitely think that Divergent by Veronica Roth could make for a thrilling movie. I don't have a dream cast though. I had a dream cast for Hunger Games and it was cast all wrong from my ideals. I cannot remember who the cast was now but I know Josh Hutcherson would have been Gale.

Now that I have danced around the question and rambled a little, what book would you want to see as an adaptation?

Activity! Take a picture or describe where you love to read the most…

The interesting answer to this that I don't have one. I know that I read a lot in bed but I can't say it is my favorite place just happens to be where I end up a lot. I think that as the spring rolls around I might find my multi-colored rope lights and set up a little nook on the balcony for late night reading.

Do you have a favorite place to read?

Talk about the book that most changed or influenced your life
(was it a book that turned you from an average to avid reader,
did it help you deal with a particularly difficult situation,
does it bring you comfort every time you read it?).

To be completely honest, it was the Harry Potter series that did this for me when I was in elementary school. I was a casual reader, reading what I had to for our reading points in school, watching my mom read her romance, and I dabbled in children's reading like Dr. Seuss. But when I finally decided to pick up Harry Potter, mind you I always had a higher reading comprehension, the world that JK Rowling had created opened up something inside my mind.

For the first time in my reading experience, I could envision the world and the characters as they went through the adventures in the book. Until that point, the words had only been that, words on a page. Now they were a story, it was like a personal screening of an awesome movie. Of course, years later, I would screen the awesome movies in the cinemas, but it changed my reading life forever.

Name 3 authors that you would love to sit down and spend an hour
or a meal with just talking about their books
or get advice on writing from?

The quick version of the answer is that I would love to meet the authors of three of the most pivotal YA series!

The specific answers would be JK Rowling for her astounding job at creating the phenonmenon that is Harry Potter. For turning her life around and never giving up though in the beginning, no one wanted the story of the boy who lived.

There is also Cassandra Clare, author of The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices. A talented author, she has created a world in existence of shadows and threaded together a meticulous story lines that gave me a thrill ride of a read. She is also VERY approachable. Always chatting her fans up on the twitter.

And Julie Kagawa, author of my new love, The Iron Fey. A teller of great fairy tales and a dreamer of wondrous stories in the mid-summer! Also very approachable on the twitter!

All of these authors are fantastic and I love the stories they all have to tell. I am sad that Harry Potter has come to a climatic and epic ending but so lives on TMI...TID...TIF....

ACK! Your favorite book/movie character just walked into the room!
Who is it and what would be your first reaction?
You get extra points if you include visual stimulation.

This is such a tough question because I love so many characters! The cast of Harry Potter was just ripped in perfection from my brain and placed on the screen it seemed! Then I have read some other responses and agree that Jackson Rathborne (Jasper: Twilight Saga), Alexander Skarsgard (Erik Northman: True Blood), Maggie Smith (Professor McGonagall: Harry Potter), and they're all great choices but I still don't think I squee over those and call them my favorite.

But I think I will go with comic book and say that I would give anything to meet Charles Xavier...but specifically a young Charles Xavier like XMen First Class...Who am I kidding? I have never read a comic book a day in my life, I just think it would be a great excuse to meet James McAvoy. I can also claim that he was Mr. Tumnus in The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe! He was also in Becoming Jane, the movie about author Jane Austen! VERY book related *halo*!

Reaction? Swoon+Squee! Picture+Tweet! LOVE. That is all!

In light of the Summer Solstice. Also known as Midsummer...
Let's talk about fairies. What is your favorite fairy tale
or story that revolves around the fae?

This is a pretty interesting question. I don't know much about the fae lore though it has always appealed to me. I'm sure there are lots of selections I know about and don't realize are fae but right now I am reading The Iron King by Julie Kagawa and it is a great collection of the tales from A Midsummer's Night Dream and so far it has been a spectacular read!

Genre Wars! What's your favorite genre?
Which book in that genre made it your favorite?

That is really a tough decision. I would have previously said Fantasy for all the Harry Potter glory and my obsession over it...Then I would have moved into saying paranormal because I LOVE VAMPIRES (I don't mean sparklepires even though I enjoy Twilight)...and now I could say dystopia because of Wither or The Hunger Games or Divergent...in the end I would say it is a tie with Paranormal and Dystopia.

With much more ease I can say my least favorite genre is Chick Lit.

And note...I am just in love with ellipses today... ... ... totally...

The magic book fairy pops out of your cereal box and says
"You & your favorite [book] character can switch places!"
Who are you going to switch with?

What a tough decision. My answer for a while has been Bella Swan. I know that she is emo and has had her rough moments but I have always been so swooned by the deep and eternal love that she shares with Edward. The fact that she gets to have it all, the beautiful baby, the loving husband, vampire glory, and pretty strong and sound mental capabilities is all a pretty nice package. She also serves to be the part of the bridge between natural enemies. It also comes with more perks like driving a Mercedes Guard or a Porsche 911...who wouldn't want that?

What are you doing to prepare for an upcoming zombie apocalypse
and/or the return of Mel Gibson to the silver screen?
(Both of which could be terrifying.)

Oh the discussions that I have had considering what would happen in the event of the zombie apocalypse.I would love to think that I would be the one with the semi-automatic that makes it to the safe zone all the while finding great places to hole out and restock but in essence, I figure I would be tagging along so hard to my boyfriend's back that he probably can't breathe and I am sobbing uncontrollably. I have recently come to admit that I am a freak-outer. Yep. As for Mel Gibson, I might actually brave the waters, we would just have to see about that one.

What about you? Will you brave the insatiable will of the zombies or the *shudder* that is Mel Gibson?

How many books do you read in a week?
And in what format do you read them, or listen to them?

Depending on how my reading time goes in a week in regards to time with the boy, house work, working out, etc.  I might be able to swing two books a week but for the most part, I only get to read one. It makes for really slow reviews, about one a week, but for now, until I get a little more straightened out, it is working for me and I am sifting through my TBR pile.

As for format, at this current time it is only print copies. I would love to have an e-reader to read some ebooks but I'm not going to pay the same price for an ebook that I have to read on a teensy weensy smart phone screen. I'm not opposed to audiobooks I just haven't ever listened to one.

What about you? Ebook? Print? Audio?

It's circle time. Time for us to open up and share.
Can you tell us FIVE quirky habits or things about you? We all have them...

Oh snap, these are all things none of us like to admit! I guess it is time to come clean...
  1. The one food I could never give up isn't even a food...its a condiment. I can't live without ketchup!
  2. I ask a LOT of questions. I know that it is annoying but its better than being uninformed.
  3. Does a pet peeve count as a quicky habit? Because nothing gets on my nerves more than seeing trash in a trash can with no trash bag!
  4. I can only read one book at a time. I can't organize or maintain reading multiple selections.
  5. I play totally geeky things like Dungeons and Dragons and up until recently World of Warcraft.
What about you? Can you relate to any of these or am I really just that strange? Drop a line!

Follow Friday (1)

In addition to First Impressions Friday, I have decided to participate in Follow Friday which is a networking feature hosted by Parajunkee. Here I am, makin' friends!

The Blogger Apocalypse made me a little emotional.
What is the most emotional scene in a book that you have read lately?

This is a monster of a question because all the books that I have been reading lately have been inundated with tons of emotions. Finding love, feeling lust, utter sorrow, heartbreak, stress, and even more. So what book or scene is the most emotional out of it all? I think that my Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult will probably hold the number one spot overall but as of lately, Crave by Melinda Metz & Laura Burns holds the scene.

When you feel the desperation for Shay to not be a part of either world, to be in the moment just for one night, it's overwhelming and impossibly intense to feel that with her. I would love to tell you more about it but spoil it? Never!

PS. My review for this amazingly awesome book will be out next week.
